bankrate.com FAQ
bankrate.com?

Why does Bankrate.com exclude E-Loan from its highest paying money market rates when it pays 5.24% with an APY of 5.38%?There is a $5000.00 min, but it must fit into one of their classifications. Is there something I am not seeing about their rating?
another possibility is that e-loan is probably not paying to be on their site. The more money the bank pays at bankrate the more visible they'll be. That's why sometimes small localized banks will have higher rates then those advertise on bankrate.

E-Loan is possibly a brokerage, so they may not qualify as a bank. The same way auto insurance brokers are excluded from rate lists.

info or are they sandbagging to stop a bank run?
No, Countrywide Bank is different from the finance company Countrywide, which is the parent. I suspect they really do not have the information to rate because I suspect Countrywide doesn't know and neither does anyone else know how bad this could get.

DebtAdviser: Are children's 529 plans risked by student loan?
21.05.12
Dear Debt Adviser: I am behind, and verging on default, on my student loans. I have made arrangements with the federal loan servicer, but there's simply no way I can pay my private loans, and they say that they cannot accept the small amount I can pay regularly. I have two small children. Each has a Maryland 529 college account for which I am the owner/custodian. If my loan goes into default and the servicer gets a judgment against me, can they levy and/or access my children's accounts? Should I transfer ownership of the accounts into my ex-wife's name? -- Jim
