    All communication to the collection agencies should be in writing.


    Just call the credit report company first. It's a lot easier, cheaper and you won't risk getting rip off. If you need to contact a collection agency later on please do your homework and make sure it's a reputable company. Also get references.

    nope but you can dispute the items with the credit breau's or pay the past due debt but it is not a quick process it takes time


    I recommend you dispute the item with the credit bureau. Chances are it's an error and will be removed.

    If the credit bureau doesn't remove it, sent the collector a letter (certified mail, return receipt) requesting validation of the debt

    Answer: Closing credit cards accounts is not always the best idea. Before making the decision, first check your credit report and see how much credit you have available. If you have other cards with available credit, closing a newer account that you don't use likely will not affect your credit score.
