Credit report?
Jan 30, 2007 by angieward_2000 | Posted in Credit
I just ran my credit report and there are several hits on it to say the least. Is it better to call the collection agencies directly and work out payment arraignments or should I call the credit consolidator people. And what is the best credit consolidator
Depends on the dollar amounts of the debts you owe.
If it is relatively small, then you want to work with the collection agencies on a case-by-case basis.
All communication to the collection agencies should be in writing.

Just call the credit report company first. It's a lot easier, cheaper and you won't risk getting rip off. If you need to contact a collection agency later on please do your homework and make sure it's a reputable company. Also get references.

I just found out I have a collection on my credit report for $69. I have no idea what it is or anything. I have to wait til tomorrow and call them before noon. What would happen if I paid that? Will it lower my credit score or will it go up a little?
I recommend you dispute the item with the credit bureau. Chances are it's an error and will be removed.
If the credit bureau doesn't remove it, sent the collector a letter (certified mail, return receipt) requesting validation of the debt

Question: I'm working on improving my credit rating and want to know if I should close my credit card accounts as I pay each one off?
Answer: Closing credit cards accounts is not always the best idea. Before making the decision, first check your credit report and see how much credit you have available. If you have other cards with available credit, closing a newer account that you don't use likely will not affect your credit score.
