Kukurugya, who won the backstroke in 52.52, also swam the lead leg on the Bulldogs’ winning 200 medley relay team and swam under the state cut time of 21.75 in the 50 free with his time of 21.43 — just behind record-setting Highland star Adam Johnston (20.51), who broke the sectional record of 20.67, set by former Lake Central star Chris Johnson in 2008 — and his Trojans’ teammate, Stephen Castillo, who placed second (21.06).
